So far my only interaction has been with the receptionist who is AWFUL. It is unfortunate that insurance is prohibitively expensive, especially for someone working their way through school and I am forced to seek out medical assistance at places like these where they treat you like a lowlife imbecile. Way to go with your customer service folks!

The first appointment I had with New Hanover in June 2012, the doctor said I could wait another year or two before having a full physical since my previous two and a half decades of exams were normal. When this doctor left, I was signed up with Dr. Towne who was pleasant, informative and positive during my first appointment with her in Dec 2012. She refilled my prescriptions for 6 months saying she wished to see me again in June to review my diabetes. I showed up in July for my appointment to get a prescription refill only to have Dr. Towne seem as if she was grumpy and unable to focus on the appointment. My son was with me at the time (22 years old) and more than ready to go to the waiting room during my exam, but Dr. Towne never laid a hand on me and only mentioned that she would see me in December for my full physical. After that appointment, I've made half a dozen phone calls and three physical appearances to their pharmacy trying to get problems taken care of with my prescriptions, including incorrect dosages and incorrect medications. The icing on the cake is that the doctor refused to refill my Birth Control pills (which I take for hormone replacement therapy) until the December time when she wanted to see me again stating that I was overdue for a "full physical." Since I pay for my medical appointments out of pocket, I was furious that she hadn't performed said full physical back in July when I came in. After ranting loudly and publicly about my outrage, the doctor had the nerve to say she did not want me back as a patient (the feeling was mutual) and I talked to another doctor that asked to lay out a plan and offered to renew my prescription provided I promise to have my full physical in December. My husband had a physical with Dr. Towne that same day that this "scene" was made and stated also that Dr. Towne seemed "out of it" and unfocused. I seriously believe that New Hanover Comm Health (who recently changed their name) needs to review their doctors performances and weed out the ones who are burned out, worn out, or just plain don't want to be there anymore.
